Course Syllabus

Welcome to Virtual Language Academy.

My name is Dr. Renaldo Scott. I am not going to call myself your teacher. For the next 4 weeks, I will be

your English language coach. What does this mean? Just as a coach on a team leads each player to

become a better player, I will lead you to becoming better speakers of English! Do not expect to come to

our sessions to ONLY do textbook exercises for an hour and 15 minutes. We will talk! We will go through

grammar in ways that will enable you to understand English better than before! You will ask questions.

As a matter of fact, you can ask any questions you want. By asking questions, you can become clear

about things in English language and culture.

Here is a sample list of some topics we will cover:

1. have/has + -ed Present perfect tense grammar

I have eaten. What does this really mean?

2. Prepositions in, at, on When do I use them?

3. Is it the Central Park or Central Park? Is it the Failaka Island or Failaka Island? Is it the Kuwait

Airways or Kuwait Airways?

4. Expressing Regret/Hypothetical Situations (very important!)

5. Do you like English classes in general? Be honest.

6. What do you usually do on Fridays?

7. What is your anticipated major in college?

8. Business English vocabulary

9. How long have you been taking English classes? What things do you love and hate about

English?

10. Pronunciation exercises b/p, t/d

11. What hobbies do you have?

12. What was your favorite vacation? What place would you like to visit again?
